Our Story

Black Women in Media was founded in 2014 with a simple but powerful intention: to create space where Black women could be honored, seen, and celebrated on their own terms.

At a time when Black women’s contributions were often overlooked or misrepresented, BWIM emerged as a platform dedicated to recognition, representation, and storytelling.

Over time, the work expanded—moving beyond moments of celebration into deeper efforts around documentation, preservation, and legacy-building.

Our story is one of evolution, growth, and unwavering commitment to Black women across industries.
