Extend the Legacy. Shape the Culture. Build With Intention
Black Women in Media chapters exist to expand our mission locally while preserving our global standard—creating intimate, culturally rooted spaces where Black women in media, business, arts, and leadership are seen, supported, and archived.

This is not a membership group.

This is stewardship.
What Is a Black Women in Media Chapter?
A chapter is a locally led, globally aligned extension of Black Women in Media—designed to bring our mission, experiences, and cultural documentation into cities and regions across the country and beyond.

Chapters create:
-
Intimate gatherings and conversations
-
Cultural moments rooted in local context
-
Community visibility for Black women across industries
Alignment with national campaigns like In Our Image
What a Chapter Is Not
-
Not a social club
-
Not an open networking group
-
Not a personal brand platform
-
Not event-for-event’s-sake programming
Chapters operate with care, discernment, and legacy in mind.
Why We're Building Chapters
Black women are doing extraordinary work everywhere—but too often in isolation, without infrastructure, visibility, or historical record.

Chapters allow us to:
-
Center Black women locally while connecting them nationally
-
Create consistent cultural standards across cities
-
Document stories that would otherwise go unrecorded
-
Build a sustainable, values-aligned community
This is about presence and permanence—not scale for scale’s sake.
Who This Is For
We are seeking chapter stewards, not organizers for hire.
Ideal chapter leaders are:
-
Deeply connected to their local Black community
-
Respected across media, culture, or professional spaces
-
Aligned with BWIM’s values, tone, and intentional pace
-
Comfortable leading intimate, high-standard gatherings
-
Committed to collaboration over visibility
You do not need a large following.
You do need integrity, discernment, and vision.
Role of a Chapter Leader
Chapter leaders are responsible for:
-
Hosting a small number of intentional gatherings annually
-
Upholding Black Women in Media’s brand, values, and standards
-
Serving as a cultural connector in their city
-
Supporting national campaigns and initiatives when aligned
-
Contributing to the archival and storytelling mission
This is leadership, not logistics alone.
Support & Alignment
Approved Chapters Receive:
Official alignment with Black Women in Media
-
Brand guidelines and chapter framework
-
Strategic guidance for programming and experiences
-
Visibility across BWIM platforms (when applicable)
-
Access to a national network of chapter leaders
Each chapter remains locally rooted—but globally connected.
How It Works
1
Submit an Application
Share your background, location, and vision.
2
Review & Conversation
Selected applicants will be invited into a conversation—not all applications move forward.
3
Alignment & Onboarding
Approved chapters receive onboarding materials and next steps.
We are intentional about growth. Not every city will have a chapter—and that is by design.
