About Black Women in Media

Black Women in Media (BWIM) is a platform founded in 2014 to honor, amplify, and document the brilliance of Black women across media, culture, business, and leadership.

What began as a conference and awards platform has evolved into a broader cultural and media ecosystem—one dedicated not only to celebration, but to preservation, authorship, and legacy.

BWIM exists to ensure Black women are not only seen in the present, but documented with intention for the future.

Why Black Women in Media Exists

For generations, Black women have shaped industries, influenced culture, and led movements—often without control over how our stories were told or remembered.

Black Women in Media was created to shift that narrative.

Through storytelling, documentation, and curated experiences, BWIM centers Black women as architects of culture, leaders of impact, and stewards of their own legacy.

What BWIM Is Today

Today, Black Women in Media operates as a living platform at the intersection of media, culture, and documentation.

Our work includes:

  • Original editorial storytelling and cultural commentary

  • Curated media amplification

  • Cultural campaigns and documentation projects

  • Intimate gatherings, pop-ups, and community experiences

  • Long-form archival initiatives, including published works

Each expression of BWIM is guided by one principle:

Black women deserve permanence, not just visibility.
